Wild bees

These wild bees can nest in your BeeHome

The BeeHome is specially designed as a nesting aid for the needs of red mason bees and horned mason bees. With giant reed tubes that have a diameter of 5 to 11 mm and are carefully sanded, it offers the ideal home for these and numerous other species. Special models and additional products invite even more specific wild bee species. On this page, you will find a compilation of the wild bee species that nest in the BeeHome.

Frequent visitors to your BeeHome

Within the fascinating world of wild bees, cavity-nesting bees form a significant group, accounting for about twenty percent of native wild bee species. Unlike other species that are capable of drilling their own holes, cavity-nesting bees rely on existing tunnels. The best-known species in this group include mason bees, leafcutter bees, wool carder bees, and scissor bees.

Our BeeHome is specially designed for individual species of this type and allows you to perfectly embark on your wild bee adventure. It was developed by biologists and wild bee experts to meet the specific requirements of certain cavity-nesting bees. Click on the link below each wild bee species to learn more about their appearance, flight period, food preferences, and nesting habits.

The exciting carpenter bee in your BeeHome

Some wild bee species are able to gnaw tunnels into rotten wood themselves to nest there. One of these species is the particularly striking Large Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa violacea). It can grow up to 3 cm long, making it one of the largest wild bees in Switzerland. It is deep black with a slight, blue-metallic sheen.
