Professional care and overwintering of your mason bees
Have you ever wondered how many mason bees you've propagated, or if other inhabitants have settled in your BeeHome? Our autumn wild bee care includes parasite removal, professional overwintering of your mason bee cocoons, statistical recording of your mason bees' nesting success, replacement of removed nesting tubes, and a starting population for the next wild bee season with at least 30 healthy mason bee cocoons.
The cost of CHF 39 per inner box (quantity discounts from two inner boxes) covers the expenses, including the work carried out by our partners in social institutions, as well as postage for the round trip of your inner box. The processing time for an inner box is at least 1 hour.
New in care as of now: To protect the tubes in your inner box even better and for a longer time from moisture, we are now applying a thin layer of food-grade oil to them. It is completely solvent-free and absolutely harmless to bees. This incurs no additional costs for you, but provides extra protection for your nesting sites.
New 2025: Additional Services – your 2025 upgrade for BeeHome & wild bees
In addition to these proven services, you can now customize your BeeHome:
- Wood refreshment - Longevity through sanding & oiling (Classic/Observer send in entire BeeHome)
- Fresh start - Replace all empty nesting tubes
- Species plus – Integrated nesting block for more diversity in the BeeHome.
- Bee power - additional placeholder & extra voucher for mason bee cocoons
More information on all additional services can be found here.

For the well-being of your mason bees
The BeeHome allows you to experience the interplay of nature, and that includes parasites. Parasites generally fulfill important functions in natural ecosystems. However, they can pose a risk to your mason bees.
By sending in your inner box for wild bee care, you reduce the risk of a parasitic infestation decreasing your mason bee population. Next spring, you will then receive a starter population with mason bee cocoons.
In our wild bee statistics, you can see your personal propagation success as well as the average degree of parasitism in the mason bee population in Switzerland. You can download an extensive overview of parasites & other visitors to the BeeHome via this link.

Roby, our BeeManager, shows you in the video what wild bee care entails and what benefits it brings you.
More care. More buzzing. More joy.
You love your BeeHome – and your mason bees do too, of course.
With our new additional services, you can now add valuable extras to your care routine: for a durable, sustainable home and an even stronger start to the next wild bee season.
Wild Bee Care 2.0: In addition to professional care and overwintering of your mason bees, we now also offer a BeeHome refresh, replacement of all empty nesting tubes, or even an extra boost of mason bee power.
Wood restoration – Longevity through sanding & oiling
Protect your BeeHome from wind and weather – and give it a fresh look at the same time. Our wood refurbishment restores the natural beauty of the wood and increases its resistance. We charge CHF 20.- for this additional service.
- The exterior walls are carefully sanded, oiled, and the logo is reapplied with a laser printer – for a particularly high-quality impression.
- The oil used is food-safe, saliva-proof, and absolutely harmless to humans, animals, and plants.
- The result: a lighter, fresher surface that still preserves the history of your BeeHome.
- Depending on the location, we recommend refurbishment every 2–4 years.
Note: In case of severe water damage, traces may remain visible – your BeeHome will therefore always retain its history and its very own character.
You decide what should be refurbished:
- For BeeHome Classic or Observer, you can send in your entire BeeHome (including the roof). Simply pack the entire BeeHome in any cardboard box. We will process the side walls of the casing or maintain your inner box.
- For BeeHome One, you send us the inner box without the roof, as usual.
Fresh Start - Replace all empty nesting tubes
Perfect for anyone who wants to offer their mason bees the best conditions every year. We charge CHF 10.- for this additional service.
- All empty nesting tubes are replaced with new ones.
- Tubes with mason bee cocoons are emptied as usual and replaced with new tubes.
- Tubes with other wild bee species remain in the inner box.
Our tubes are made of high-quality giant reed (Arundo donax) – a renewable natural material that is ideal as a nesting site. With a diameter of 5–11 mm and a length of over 13 cm, they are perfectly tailored to the needs of mason bees and many other wild bee species. In addition, giant reed acts as a natural CO₂ reservoir, making it a sustainable choice for your BeeHome.
This is how your BeeHome starts the new season with fresh, optimally prepared nesting sites.
Artenplus – Integrated nesting block for more diversity in the BeeHome
Do you want to make your BeeHome even richer in species? With the integrated Artenplus nesting block, you can specifically create new space for smaller wild bees – those species that are often overlooked but are particularly valuable for biodiversity.
The block, made of solid ash wood, is precisely integrated into your BeeHome and complements your inner box with nesting tunnels of a smaller diameter – ideal for wild bee species that otherwise find little space. We charge CHF 20.– for this additional service.
- specifically promotes other wild bee species
- increases the ecological diversity in your BeeHome
- can be supplemented or replaced as needed
Bee Power – additional placeholder & extra voucher for mason bee cocoons
Want to bring even more life to your garden? With BeePower, in addition to the regular starter population in spring, we equip your BeeHome with another voucher for mason bee cocoons – and insert a precisely fitting placeholder during wild bee care. For this additional service, we charge CHF 18.-.
The placeholder is specially made for your BeeHome and allows for the safe insertion and placement of additional cocoons. The second voucher is automatically stored in your MyBeeHome account – no paper, no expiry date.
This way, you can specifically strengthen your wild bee population – and welcome twice as many buzzing guests.
Here's how it works
- Register your BeeHome for wild bee care as usual on MyBeeHome from late August to late October.
- Select your desired additional services during the registration process.
- Send us your BeeHome or your inner box – depending on the additional service you chose.
- We'll take care of the rest.
Please note: Additional services may extend the processing time by 1–2 weeks, as they are carried out in a separate processing step.
Compare the reproduction rate of your mason bee cocoons
After your inner box has been cleared of parasites and the mason bee cocoons have been properly overwintered, you will receive your very own wild bee statistics. In the "My BeeHome" section, you can view your personal breeding success over the years.
The coolest thing is that you can compare your analysis with other wild bee fans from your town, your canton, or even the whole of Switzerland! A map also visually shows where the mason bees are buzzing the most: The greener the area, the larger the number of propagated cocoons.
The cost of CHF 39 per inner box (quantity discounts from two inner boxes) covers the expenses, including the work carried out by our partners in social institutions, as well as the postage for sending and returning your inner box. The processing time for an inner box is at least 1 hour.

Yes, wild bee care is also useful if only a few tubes in your BeeHome are sealed.
During wild bee care, statistical data on nesting success is collected, other species that have nested in your BeeHome are identified, and insights into parasitism are gained. Through professional wild bee care and proper overwintering, you reduce the loss rate of mason bees due to parasites. You also receive your personal wild bee statistics, which give you valuable insights into which species have nested in your BeeHome. This data is exciting and useful for tracking the development of your wild bee population over several years. After the care, we will send your inner box back to you. From the beginning of March, you can order new mason bee cocoons from us.
This year, our wild bee care includes completely new additional services – inspired by the ideas of our community. This extends the lifespan of your BeeHome, gives your wild bees perfect starting conditions, and prepares you for many buzzing seasons.
In summary:
- Professional wild bee care and proper overwintering reduce the loss rate of mason bees due to parasites
- Personal wild bee statistics with exciting insights
- From March: Free mason bee cocoons available for order
- New in 2025: Additional services (at an extra charge) for a long-lasting BeeHome
If you do not send in your inner box for wild bee care from late August to late October, the mason bees will overwinter in your BeeHome. In this case, it is crucial that you leave your BeeHome standing or hanging outside so that the natural cycle of the wild bees is not disturbed. Wild bees need the cold to slow down their metabolism and go into hibernation. As soon as the days get warmer in spring, the next generation of mason bees will hatch from their cocoons. From March onwards, you also have the option to purchase new mason bee cocoons.
However, without care, there is a higher risk that the wild bees will be affected by parasites, against which unfortunately nothing can be done preventively. Through wild bee care and professional overwintering with us, we reduce the loss rate of mason bees. For example, mites in your BeeHome can eat the pollen from the larvae, leading to the death of the larvae and preventing long-term reproduction.
Therefore, we advise you to regularly take advantage of wild bee care. This ensures a healthy population. Furthermore, you will receive personal wild bee statistics that you can compare with other wild bee enthusiasts from your town, canton, or all of Switzerland. This makes care not only useful but also exciting.
Simply register your BeeHome during this period at MyBeeHome. There you can conveniently print out the pre-paid shipping label at home and choose your preferred payment method directly online.

👉 Important: If you have selected the "wood refreshment" extra service and own a BeeHome Classic or BeeHome Observer, please do not only send in the inner box, but the entire BeeHome. This is the only way we can ensure that the side walls of your BeeHome will shine in fresh splendor next season.
If you are unable to create the label via MyBeeHome, we ask you to clearly write your complete contact details (first and last name, address, email address) and, most importantly, your house code on the package. Our return address for wild bee care from the end of August is:
