Her day job involves selling products for roofers, but in her free time, she indulges her love for nature: Jessica Achtsnicht cultivates a large garden that is increasingly becoming an insect paradise. It's no wonder that the 36-year-old is also convinced by the BeeHome Diversity.
Her garden is buzzing in every corner
Raised beds, perennials, brightly colored tomatoes, or delicate seedlings: On her Instagram channel, Jessica Achtsnicht showcases the full splendor of her own garden. Under the label Lauseblattwerk, she offers self-sufficiency enthusiasts insights into the growth of her plants, provides tips against pests, and shares instructions for canning or making soup. For some time now, this nature lover from the Rhineland has also been interested in all the fluttering and buzzing creatures that frequent her garden. And so, the first BeeHome soon moved in.However, Jessi's connection to nature was not always a given: "Around seven years ago, my family and I lived in an apartment with a small balcony," says the 36-year-old mother of two young girls. "Back then, I didn't have a green thumb at all; on the contrary, it felt like every plant I touched died. Shame on me!"
Growing enthusiasm
But then the family moved into a house with a large garden between Cologne and Düsseldorf. Year after year, her enthusiasm for this garden and for the many beautiful flowers grew. "Growing vegetables became so captivating for me that it not only became a hobby, but I developed a kind of green-thumb-lifestyle." What does she mean by that? Jessi not only learned about eggplants, zucchini, and pumpkins, but also researched which perennials and flowers are good food sources for bees, butterflies, and the like.
Thus, more and more beneficial plants grew in her biotope. Since these industrious animals also need a place to stay, it was only logical that the first BeeHome soon moved into the garden. "I became aware of Pollinature's BeeHomes through my Instagram activities, which piqued my curiosity," says Jessica Achtsnicht. She never regretted her purchase: "It's simply fantastic to watch the busy comings and goings of the bees!" she raves.
BeeHome Diversity for even more variety
However, the first little bee house was so popular that it soon reached its limits: "In the second year, it was practically closed due to overcrowding, because so many bees were swarming around this one BeeHome," says the woman from the Rhineland, laughing. "That was very nice to see." But of course, another home for the industrious bees was needed. So, by setting up the larger BeeHome Diversity, she created a second bee paradise.
Thanks to various structural elements and nesting tubes with different diameters, many species of wild bees, including rare ones, find a home here. "I integrated the BeeHome Diversity into my vegetable garden and placed it next to one of my raised beds, surrounded by planting stones and planted with bee-friendly plants," explains Jessi.
A
s additional bird protection, she installed an acrylic panel. The wild bees clearly like it all: "After a short time, the first animals had hatched, and it was buzzing and humming in every corner," says the 36-year-old. "Every time I came into the garden, a new tube was closed. I think we will be blessed with many bees next year." This particularly delights the mother of two: "I find it simply wonderful, especially thanks to the discovery drawer for rearing, that you can show children this miracle of nature up close."
The nature lover's conclusion: "In my opinion, every garden should have a BeeHome to make it as easy as possible for these great beneficial insects and so that they can fly undisturbed from blossom to blossom."
