Promote biodiversity in your own garden with RICOTER Wild Bee Sand! This ready-to-use, sandy substrate was developed together with Wildbiene + Partner and can be used for building sand lenses or open sand areas as nesting aids for wild bees and ground-nesting insects.
Tips for building sand lenses and open sand areas
- Dig a pit (diameter from 60cm, depth from approx. 30cm)
- As drainage, place a layer of field stones or coarse gravel at the bottom of the pit
- Place wild bee sand directly on the drainage layer and compact it
- For building a sand lens, then form a mound of approx. 30cm height above the ground, lightly pressing the wild bee sand
- Plant the surroundings of the sand lens or sand area with native perennials as a food source for wild bees and insects
- To promote biodiversity in the garden, create additional natural structures (deadwood, branches, stone piles, dry stone walls, etc.)
- Maintenance: Regularly cut back vegetation on the sand lens, but do not weed
