Supplement your ladybug house with ladybug eggs.
Would you like to observe the metamorphosis from egg to ladybug in your ladybug house? With this order, you will receive a prepaid redemption card (voucher) that you can use to order ladybug eggs, including food, from a Swiss organic garden center. Please note that no replacement will be provided if the redemption card (voucher) is lost.
You can download the breeding instructions & feeding plan here.
If you have already ordered the ladybug house, you will receive a leporello with it. This summarizes the most important technical information on finding & ordering, keeping, and developing ladybugs: What should be considered when caring for and feeding ladybugs? What happens during metamorphosis? Where do ladybugs get their name from? Unfolded, the leporello becomes a busy picture that invites you to linger, observe, and document.
What to do when the ladybug eggs arrive?
You will receive a sealed container by mail containing the tiny eggs. Place the container in a protected, bright location out of direct sunlight. The temperature should be at least 15 degrees, but not more than 25 degrees. Please immediately place the two enclosed food portions in the freezer. As soon as the larvae hatch from the eggs, you can see them as small black dots. From now on, it will take 5-6 days until the little ones can move into the ladybug house. Mark off the days precisely (see back) so you can keep track.
What do I do if I am not at home when the eggs arrive?
If the temperatures are not below 15 and above 22 degrees, the delivery will survive one day of waiting in the mailbox undamaged. On very hot days, the postal envelope should not have to wait unnecessarily long, otherwise the food can spoil – it must go into the freezer.
When should the ladybug eggs be moved to the ladybug house?
Open the small container on the 6th day after hatching and place the creatures along with the wood shavings in the ladybug house. Now it's time for the first feeding. To do this, cut open the packaging on all sides and scatter the food among the shavings. If there is still food stuck to the plastic, just put everything in the house. The larvae are hungry now and need energy.
What food do ladybug larvae get?
The food is supplied directly with the ladybug eggs. Please place the food portions directly into the freezer upon receipt. The instructions will tell you on which days the larvae should be fed.
